Dictating by voice

If speaking is faster for you than typing, you can dictate your message into the chat box.

How to dictate

1. Click the microphone button, to the left of the model selector.
2. Speak. While you record, the box says Listening… and you see dots that move with your voice.
3. Click the ✓ to finish (or the X to discard). The box says Transcribing….
4. The text appears in the box, where your cursor was. Fix it and send it yourself: dictation isn’t sent on its own.

Worth knowing

• Recording stops on its own at 5 minutes. In the last 30 seconds you see how much is left.
• Anything shorter than 1 second is discarded.
• If transcription fails, you can click Retry without recording again.
• The audio isn’t saved: it’s used once to transcribe.

If something doesn’t work

• If you didn’t allow the microphone, you see Allow the microphone in your browser to dictate.
• If there’s no microphone, We couldn’t find a microphone.
• If nothing was heard, Nothing was heard.
• If it couldn’t be transcribed, We couldn’t transcribe this audio. with Retry.

Note

Dictation can count as AI usage on your plan, like the rest of your usage.
